The mission of the Arts Institute is to advance the excellence of arts and design scholarship, instruction, and outreach on the UW-Madison campus through increased visibility, coordination, and integration.



The Arts Institute sponsors outreach programs, which perform services throughout the state of Wisconsin. Programs include: Arts Outreach, Wisconsin Film Festival and Madison Early Music Festival.



The Graphic Designer will work as part of the External Relations team to support the overall mission and visual identity of the Arts Institute, its programs and the Arts on Campus. This position will work reporting to the Senior Art Director.



The Graphic Designer will conceptualize, implement and oversee production of educational and marketing materials produced in support of the Arts Institute's development activities as well as for units in the Arts Institute including the director's office, community and alumni relations staff, outreach centers, and academic programs



Materials will also be created for Institute-sponsored public events and programs. The Designer will ensure consistent application of Institute brand standards and messages throughout all publications. The Designer will also provide graphic support and consultation for the Arts Institute web site, for Arts Institute outreach center web sites and programs

The successful candidate will have:

Knowledge of the principles and processes used in graphic design and the production of print and electronic publications.
Traditional and computer illustration skills.
A strong work ethic including the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Ability to successfully manage a high volume workload with shifting priorities and strict deadlines.
Willingness to perform other assignments as needed.
Design skills for web and print—from research, concepting, and production through final output
Proficient in Adobe Creative Design Suite: Illustrator, Photoshop, In-Design, Acrobat Professional
Experienced in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Good knowledge of best practices in print production of files
Excels in visual, written and verbal communications
Must be able to define and work to deadlines
Well organized, detail-oriented, and excellent time management skills
Able to take initiative and work independently in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
Flexible and willing to adapt to changing priorities, able to manage multiple demands
Understanding of and passion for the Arts at UW–Madison, and good team collaboration skills
Enjoys learning, open minded, and seeking new ways to grow personally and professionally
Fun, outgoing, motivated, passionate about design
Collaborating with team members through online project management systems and using online communication applications will be a necessity in this position
experience in photography helpful, but not required
This is an ongoing student position that could possibly last for several years.

This position should:

be able to work 10 – 20 hours a week (closer to 20 hours a week February - April)

has availability to work in the office on Tuesdays

is available to work during the week of Spring Break (March 16 – 24, 2018)
